Obituary of Edward M. Mayzel Sr.
Edward M. Mayzel, Sr., age 86, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Josephine "Fern" (Guinta) Mayzel. Born in New York, N.Y. on May 25, 1938, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Skokan) Mayzel. After relocating to Torrington, CT and graduating from Oliver Wolcott Tech, he became a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines, Corporal E4. Upon receiving his AS in Electrical Engineering, Ed later was employed by Hamilton Standard and Pratt and Whitney with many years of dedicated service before his retirement. Mr. Mayzel was extremely involved with the Boy Scouts not only while his sons participated, but also continued to volunteer well into his retirement years. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed hunting for buried treasures with his metal detector along the beaches of Cape Cod. He also enjoyed clamming the Cape waters and bringing them home to his wife "Josey" to make clam chowder and clams casino that the entire family enjoyed together. He kept occupied in his retirement years as an amateur wine vintner. Researching, studying and perfecting the right combination of soil with the right type of grapes necessary to yield the tastiest batches of homemade wine that Cape Cod could offer. It was a hobby that he enjoyed until 2016 so that he could care for his wife. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his devoted sons, Edward Mayzel Jr. of Harwinton, Gary Mayzel of Wethersfield and Douglas Mayzel and his wife Kari of Watertown, NY, his cherished grandchildren, Tanner, Peyton, Noah and Jaeden Mayzel, his sister, Anne Ferrari of Torrington, his sister-in-law, Patricia Marsilio and her husband John of Shelton, special nieces, Deborah Ferrari and her husband Martin Wheeler of Hartford and Patricia Ferrari of Burlington and loving nephew, Daniel McPadden of Shelton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday the 28th day of October, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Burial with full military honors in Massachusetts National Cemetery will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Friends may greet the family on Monday morning the 28th day of October from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
