Obituary of Thomas McCloghry
Fairfield Resident
Thomas McCloghry, age 87, of Fairfield and formerly of Easton, died Thursday, February 10 of complications from lung cancer. Born in Greystones, County Wicklow, Ireland on November 28, 1923, Mr. McCloghry was a published author of five books and a former executive with Bridgeport Machines. He attended Wellington College, Oxford University and the College of Aeronautical Engineering all in England. He volunteered for pilot training in 1942 during the Second World War and was called into service a year later. He was assigned to a training base in Canada where he was a lead instructor in fighter tactics and low level and dive bombing. He was married to his beloved Enid in 1944; who passed away in 2001. After the war, he moved his family to Canada where he worked for AVRO Engineering until the company was closed. He took a position at a small control systems company called CompuDyne Corporation in 1959 in Hatboro, PA. The company devised a CAD control for the machine tool industry and was purchased by Bridgeport Machines of Bridgeport, CT. Mr. McCloghry ascended to the position of Vice President of Sales during his 23 years and retired from that post in 1993. An engineer by training and by passion, Mr. McCloghry began exhaustive research into his family history completing five books in series entitled The Arboretum which chronicle the McCloghry family through over 400 years, three continents and numerous name spelling changes. A loving father to three sons: Thomas of South Carolina; Gerald of Trumbull, CT and Matthew of Hatfield, MA. He is recalled as a caring man with great sense of humor and a passion for life. He donated hours of his time to his churches and was a member of the vestry at both Christs Church in Easton and St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Fairfield. He is survived by five grandchildren; Thomas of Trumbull, Michael of Trumbull, Dimitri of South Carolina and Samantha and Meghan of Southbury; CT his loving daughters-in-law Alice and Irini and his brother Shaw of Oxford, England. A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Rd., Fairfield. Interment will be private. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Donations Information
