Obituary of James Meraviglia

Trumbull Resident James (Jim) Meraviglia, age 80, of Trumbull and formerly of Orange and Milford, beloved husband of the late Nan Meraviglia, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Vincents Medical Center, Bridgeport, with his loving family by his side. Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 28, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Dinah (Wright) Meraviglia. Jim proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956. In 1956 he met the love of his life, Nan Molnar and they were married in August of that year. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage before her death in March of 2005. He missed Nan every single day and his family is comforted in the knowledge that they are together again. Jims career was spent working for the United States Government with his last position being Deputy Program Manager for the Navy Department, working out of Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford. He was fortunate enough to be able to retire at the age of 55, enjoying nearly 26 years of retirement. Jim was always there for his family, lending a hand in any way he could. He loved and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Any day spent with them was considered a great day. He was an amazing father to his son and daughter and his five grandchildren absolutely adored him. He will be sorely missed. Jim loved to gather with his good friends at the boatyard on weekends during warmer weather and spend the day chatting, eating and laughing. He was famous for the breakfasts he would prepare for them. He owned several boats throughout his life and his children will fondly remember the wonderful adventures and vacations they took on their cabin cruiser. For many years, he would dress as Santa Claus and ride in on his friends boat to Milford Harbor and hand out gifts to the children from the area. Jim loved all animals but especially Jake, his daughters dog who visited him daily. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James and Dawn Meraviglia of Milford, his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Alton Ferris of Trumbull, his five grandchildren and their partners, Sandra Meraviglia Fomenko and her husband Thomas, Gregg Ferris and his wife Nicole, Michael Meraviglia and his fiance Melissa Crisafi and her son Jack, Garrett Ferris and his fiance Lauren Loomer, Bryan Meraviglia and his girlfriend Shannon Navroth; his soon-to-be-born great granddaughter, Emma Lynn Ferris; his sisters Ethel Howarth of California and Edith ODice of Florida. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother Robert Meraviglia. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull followed by interment will Full Military Honors.
