Obituary of Joan Marie Mantone

Joan M. (Antignani) Mantone of Trumbull was delivered into the loving arms of The Lord, Our Father on January 11, 2015 with her devoted family by her side. Joan was born June 20, 1962 to the late Ralph (Antignani) Anthony and Nicolina DeMasi Antignani, the fifth of eight children. She was raised in the North End of Bridgeport and attended area schools graduating from Central High School in 1980. She was a member of The National Honor Society and was awarded the Florence E. Batchelor Scholarship, a four year scholarship that is awarded to one graduating senior per year. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Math and Statistics from the University of Connecticut in 1985 and an MBA from Sacred Heart University in 1991, and was a member of the Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society having achieved a 3.95 GPA. Joan worked in business primarily in Finance for various companies in the Fairfield County Region. She rose to the Executive level and was a Senior Vice President of Finance at ICR, LLC. Her most recent position was in the Finance Department in the Town of Trumbull. Joan was passionate about many things: she was a life- long learner and became a Realtor in 2003. She was an agent with Keller Williams in Trumbull. She loved to read, sing, dance, draw, watch movies, write poetry and stories especially for her children, write songs, entertain for the holidays and throw parties. She made the traditional Italian dishes and desserts for the holidays that were passed down to her from her mother. She was an athlete having run track in high school as a sprinter, played baseball and softball into her late 40's, was a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter. She retired from softball to coach her daughters in the sport. She was a Yankee fanatic and her softball jersey was always #5 like Joe DiMaggio. Derek Jeter was her all- time favorite player. Joan was devoted to her Faith and was a Communicant and Catechist Teacher at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church in Trumbull. She was a member of the PTA and volunteered at the children's school (s). Joan is survived by her twin daughters, the two loves of her life, Isabella Nicole Mantone and Savannah Marie Mantone of Trumbull, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Gerald Goldstein of Naugatuck, Nancy and Ronald Long of Stratford; sister and best friend, Teresa Antignani of Bridgeport; brothers James Antignani of Shelton and John Antignani of Bridgeport; life- long friends who were like her sisters, Bonnie Searles of Huntington and Elizabeth Plavcan of Newington; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marlene and Ward Burling of Seymour; step children, Becky Mantone of Fairfield, August Mantone, Jr. of Ansonia, Brian and wife Sabrina Mantone of Bridgeport, Stephanie and Kristen Mantone of Bridgeport and Michelle and husband Brian Hychko of Bridgeport; step-grandchildren, Ashley, Erika, Jasmine and Ricardo Sanchez, Janessa Rosado, August Mantone, III, and Brian Hychko, Jr.; step-great granddaughter, Makayla Sierra; goddaughter and niece and husband Jessica and Igli Telo, nieces Rachel and Sara Goldstein, nieces Jaime and husband Brian Nichols, niece Carrie Poppa, nephew Matthew Dalvano; great nieces, Mia Telo and Elena Gianelli, Alyssa Mendoza; great nephews, Josh Poppa, Tyler and Ashton Nichols, and great-great niece Jayla Mendoza; special godchildren Tory Searles and James Plavcan; Aunts, Teresa Vitello, Rosemary Antignani, Gloria Antignani, Helen DeMasi and Uncle Joseph DeMasi. In addition to her beloved parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Louis and Joseph Antignani and her former husband, August Mantone. She had very close relationships with many of her cousins and close friends. The family would like to thank Father Brian Gannon for his support, prayers and visits to Joan, Dr. Azodi and his staff; Dr. Neil Fishbach and his staff, especially nurses Lisa, Denise and Amber, technicians Amanda, Karen and Maria for their compassionate care; the nurses and PCT's at Bridgeport Hospital West Tower 7; Kim Bielecki and Philana of Bridgeport Hospital for their devotion to Joan; The Interventional Radiation Team at Advanced Radiation and Bridgeport Hospital, especially Matt, Marita, Jen, and Debbie. Funeral services will take place on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
