Obituary of Robert E. Beardsworth

A HERO is a person who is admired for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Sadly, on Monday, May 23, we lost our hero and Patriarch of our family, Robert Beardsworth. Born on December 2, 1943, he was one of seven children to the late Raymond Sr. and Doris Halstead Beardsworth. Bob was born and raised in Bridgeport, where he met and married his only true love, Nancy Cioffi. Together they raised their son, Todd, and daughter Annie in Trumbull, CT. Bob worked hard to support his family, extended family, and friends. Self-employed for over 55 years and purchasing his first business at just 21 years old, Bob's tremendous wisdom, street smarts, and grit built a successful Wholesale Automobile business spanning over five decades. Providing security for those he loved kept him going when even his body indicated he should be slowing down. Though a perfect day in Bob's prime looked more like a verse from Alan Jackson's "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere", spending time with friends on the water, his latter years were spent with his expanding family, and ultimately, where Bob found his greatest happiness. He especially loved a bustling house where everyone was welcome to stop in, and you always felt like family while there. No one was a stranger to Bob. If you were meeting for the first time, you would have a conversation and walk away with a new friend. Bob's toughness was legendary. A reputation as a "man's man"; big, strong, and tough as nails with "man-paw" hands; who had a heart of gold and a beautiful soul.

In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, Nancy, survivors include his two loving children, Todd Beardsworth and his wife Jessica of Stratford and Annie Stanziano and her husband Anthony of Fairfield, four cherished grandsons, Mason and Peyton Beardsworth and Nico and Luca Stanziano, three sisters, Mary Ellen Zambardo and her husband Thomas of Fairfield, Debbie Ehrentraut and her husband Charlie of Beacon Falls and Patricia Walsh and her husband Joseph of Seymour, sister-in-law, Lisa Parziale of Bridgeport, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Ferdy Cortinhas, Monique Vig and Courtney Coyne, with whom he had a special relationship. He was predeceased by siblings Raymond Beardsworth Jr., Suzanne O'Brien, and Nancy Turlish.

We want to thank our extended family at Curtiss Ryan Honda for their many years working alongside Bob and meaningful lifelong friendships that fulfilled him. Bob had too many friends to list but it would be impossible to not to acknowledge life long friend Pat Laurente, and his 3 best friends Brian Mastrone, Tony Wilson and Louis Janneke. Bob will leave a huge gap in the Greater Bridgeport Automobile community that can never be filled and will be sorely missed. We can only imagine how glorious the reunion must have been with so many beloved family and friends who left us before him as he was welcomed back to his Heavenly Home. For those of us still here, we will be missing you until the time comes and we "see you again."
